Fear, terror and panic have all engulfed the densely-populated community of Chimutu in Lilongwe after residents had a rude  wakening in the wee hours of March 3, 2022, after discovering a lifeless body of a young girl with albinism, half-buried in a Maize field.

The incident has become a latest in a spate of similar horrific deaths of people with albinism within the city of Lilongwe as they are killed in the same fashion.

Narrating the heart-rending ordeal, Surgeant  Bota Mtengeni, who speaks on behalf of Chimutu Police Unit  in the area, said the law enforcers were alerted by a  traditional leader from the area about the discovery of a dead body of unsuspecting girl in the area whom he said was already living in fear even prior to her gruesome murder.

” We can confirm that our officers were called in Chimutu area where a lifeless body of  a young girl with albinism was found with part of her body parts mutilated and some parts missing and also in decomposed state,” said the police publicist.

He identified the victim as Nomsa Kuyewawa,9.

He added: “In our records we  had  a  report of  the disappearance of a young girl of albinism since 22  January 2022. But as it stands, we will give you more details after the medical examination,” added Sergeant Mtengeni .

Meanwhile, police have arrested one suspect, a 43 year old  Barnett Korea  over the incident.

It is believed that Korea has several other accomplices who jointly orchestrated the murder of the girl.

At the moment, other suspected accomplices are still at large and police are investigating the whereabouts of the fugitives.

The suspect is expected to appear before court to be formally charged for  murder as Police intensify their investigation.

Police have also assured the public of maximum security in the area and the nation as whole amid growing fear of insecurity which has sent shivers in the spine of many Malawians.
